Indian Railways to start foot, head massage services on board

In a first-of-a-kind attempt, The Indian Railways has announced head and foot massage services for passengers on board running trains. The service will be made available in 39 trains departing from Indore station. The service is likely to commence in 15-20 days and will be available only from 6 am to 10 pm. Rs 100 each will be charged for head massage and foot massage. According to the plan, each train would have about 3-5 masseurs, who will be hired on contractual basis. After proper background check, the contractors and the masseurs would be given identity cards. The massage will be provided on trains including include Malwa Express, Indore-Lingampalli Humsafar Express, Avantika Express, Indore-Veraval Mahamana Express, Shipra Express, Narmada Express, Ahilya Nagari Express, Panchvally Express, Indore-Pune Express.

 

Being part of a proposal from the Ratlam division of Western Railway zone, this scheme is part of the Railways’ scheme whereby zones and divisions have been asked to come out with new and innovative ideas to generate non-fare revenue for the national transporter. The initiative will help the Railways earn Rs 20 lakh annually, above the Rs 90 lakh it makes from ticket sales every year.
