Rakesh Verma, Additional Secretary, Tourism, has said that the draft tourism policy has five missions at its core, and the first one is National Green Tourism Mission, which looks at mainstreaming sustainability in the tourism sector. “It’s a key challenge the sector faces and it is also one of the lessons from the pandemic that we need to develop tourism on sustainable and responsible lines.”

Ministry of Tourism will be organising an event to recognisethe women that are contributing to travel trade and hospitality in India, reveals Rupinder Brar, ADG, Tourism. She also shared that the event will be held on International Women’s Day on 8th March, 2022. “We will be organisingthis event because women make a lot of difference to our country, to our industry and hence we want to recognisethat,” she added.

Rupinder Brar, ADG, Tourism, has said that on 25th January, 2022, they will be having a big event at Pochampalli, which was one of the villages recommended to UNWTO for rural tourism. “We are going to set up a nice big event there. Also, there is world’s largest tribal festival, which we will be celebrating in Mulugu from 16th-19th February. We are going to bring some interesting stories and activities from there,” she said.

Rupinder Brar, ADG, Tourism, has said that MOT is ready with a campaign that would focus on India being a safe destination and is ready to welcome travellers, and it will be launched very soon. “The content is ready, and the messaging will be both direct and indirect. One promotion will focus on India being vaccinated and the other will feature our hotels, hotel staff, cab drivers, airports, roads, shopping malls, etc. communicating that the country is safe to travel. Discussions with channels is done and we will be doing a soft launch on digital mediums initially.

Rakesh Verma, Additional Secretary, Tourism has said MOT has come out with a draft National Tourism Policy in a bid to bring structural changes to the sector and lay down an ambitious framework for tourism growth. “It has 5 missions, which include National Green Tourism Mission, National Digital Tourism Mission, Tourism and Hospitality Sector Skill Mission, Destination Management, and Developing Tourism and Hospitality MSMEs. The policy is out for consultation and in around 5-6 weeks, we should be close to finalising the draft,” he said.

The Ministry of Tourism started the destination based skill development-training program at 7 iconic sites in Financial Year 2019-20 to train, upgrade and sensitize the local people residing near these tourism sites and destinations. This program is geared towards enhancing employability, in both rural and urban destinations and to upgrade the manpower servicing the tourism sector.

Union minister of culture, tourism, and DoNER, G Kishan Reddy said that Kurukshetra will be developed as the world’s most beautiful tourist destination on Tuesday. To develop this holy place, the Centre and state governments are extending every possible support. This destination will be developed as a tourism hub and the tourists from across the world would be attracted here.

G Kishan Reddy, Union Minister for Tourism, Culture and Development of North Eastern Region – DoNER, reviewed projects of Haryana and Punjab and functioning of the Central and State Institutes of Hotel Management. He also reviewed the projects under the Ministry of Culture and Archaeological Survey of India. Emphasis was given upon the need to work together to give way to effective development and promotion of tourism.

As per sources, the Andhra Pradesh Tourism Development Corporation wanted to reopen the resorts closed due to the COVID outbreak, and had invited tenders to award maintenance contracts for 34 resorts in different districts. Surprisingly, the department did not receive a single bid in at least 15 locations. The revenues of the corporation depend on the reopening of the resorts.

The temple city’s Rs 339-crore project has been completed in less than three years as planned, despite the COVID pandemic, PM Narendra Modi on Monday inaugurated the Kashi Vishwanath corridor during his two-day visit to Varanasi. In his address, he stated that a new history is being created with the project. He also urged Indians to make a commitment to sanitation, innovation, and an Atmanirbhar Bharat.
