JLL’s Hotel Momentum India (HMI) Q2 2020, has revealed that Goa saw the sharpest decline in RevPAR in Q2 2020, with a 93.9 percent drop compared to the same period in the previous year.

Steve Borgia, CMD, INDeco Leisure Hotels, has said that it was constant innovation and doing what was permissible during the lockdown, that has made them make profit in June, and survive the lockdown. Speaking at the 5th TravTalk Digital Conclave, he said, “After a lot of problems, continuous innovation and continuous cost cuts, we are now comfortable. We launched a number of packages for weddings, local guests, parents of NRIs, young women with babies, as well as for bachelors. All this helped us make profit. We need to constantly transform and innovate, and create a price advantage.”

Himmat Anand, Founder, Tree of Life Resorts & Hotels, has revealed that they managed to do an occupancy of 68% at their Jaipur property in July, and that too at an ARR of Rs.10,700. “At Tree of Life Resort & Spa Jaipur, we did better occupancy than last July. Presently, in August we have 58% booked occupancy,” he said.

HVS ANAROCK’S latest monthly newsletter titled ‘Hotels & Hospitality Overview India’ reveals that Kochi was the top performing market in India in June with negative growth in RevPAR at 50.3 per cent, followed by New Delhi at 72.4 per cent. Bengaluru and Goa were the lowest performers for the month of June 2020.

On behalf of the hotel industry of Odisha, J K Mohanty, MHCIMA, Chairman – Hotel & Restaurant Association of Odisha & IATO Eastern Region, has written a letter to Reserve Bank of India, to extend the moratorium period up to March 2021 and exempt hoteliers from payment of interest during this period as it is not possible to pay interest without earning. He also expressed his gratitude to RBI for announcing immediate action to avoid the crisis by allowing relief on loan moratorium on interest and principal repayment for a period three months and later extended to six months.

Accor is all ready to set footprints in Chandigarh with its popular brand, Novotel. Being developed in the city centre close to the airport, the Novotel Chandigarh Tribune Chowk will offer 120 rooms, two food and beverage outlets, function rooms of various sizes, a swimming pool, and a gymnasium. We ran many programmes to attract locals and did weddings with the gathering of 50 people. We managed to make a profit of 2.5 lakh,” he said.

HVS ANAROCK’S report titled ‘India Hotels Outlook’ that studies the impact of COVID-19 on the Indian hotel sector estimates that assuming recovery from COVID-19 begins in H2 2020, occupancy would then recover only by year 2022, touching 66%, while rates would recover by year 2023.
