National Tourism Awards 2018-19

Ministry of Tourism facilitated the efforts of industry stakeholders and conferred the National Tourism Awards 2018-19 to winners in different categories on the occasion of World Tourism Day at Vigyan Bhavan, New Delhi. The Chief Guest of the prestigious event was Jagdeep Dhankhar, Vice President of India, who honoured the excellence of members in the travel, tourism and hospitality industry, including State Governments. G Kishan Reddy, Union Minister of Tourism, Culture and DONER, along with Ajay Bhatt, Minister of State for Tourism, also graced the ceremony. Ministers, representatives of states, travel trade and tourism organisations were in attendance to receive the awards. India needs to fully open unhindered travel for vaccinated travellers: Suman Billa

Suman Billa, Director, Technical Cooperation and Silk Road Development, UNWTO, has said that India should open unhindered travel for those who are vaccinated. “This means that for domestic travel, if I have been vaccinated and I have a certificate to prove it, I should be allowed to travel wherever I can.” Billa also suggests that India needs an entirely new set of guidelines that can reassure inbound tourists of India’s safety.

FHRAI requests FM’s intervention in Rs60,000 crore loan guarantee scheme not yet notified

FHRAI has submitted a representation to Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman requesting her intervention for notifying the Rs60,000 crore sanctioned under the Loan Guarantee Scheme for COVID-affected sectors that was announced on June 28. The Association has stated that neither the operational guidelines nor any other details of the scheme have been announced by the Ministry so far.

Kazak Tourism & TAAI sign MoU for mutual cooperation

Chandigarh-Kullu heli route cheaper from August 15

To provide regional connectivity and boost trade & tourism in the remotest parts of the country, Pawan Hans will now fly on the Chandigarh-Kullu-Chandigarh route from August 15 at reduced fares under the UDAN scheme. The flight will be operated thrice weekly, on Monday, Friday and Sunday. Bookings are open and can be made on the Pawan Hans website. The fare has been set at Rs6,500 (one way).

Tourism Minister G Kishan Reddy has said that the sector has always been a strong driver for economic growth in the country and has one of the highest job creating potentials. “In 2019, the industry contributed US$194 billion to the Indian economy. For a Rs10 lakh investment, tourism can provide 78 jobs, as compared to 45 jobs in the manufacturing sector,” he added.

Tourism Minister of Uttarakhand, Satpal Maharaj has said that comprehensive strategies of state governments will bring tourism back on track. He added, “We have worked on a two-pronged strategy in our state. On the one hand we have provided Rs200 crore relief package to respective stakeholders related to the tourism industry, and on the other hand rolled out various schemes to encourage self-employment opportunities for the local youth.”
