Uttar Pradesh government is launching a special soft skills training initiative for people associated with the tourism industry in the state. To accelerate this initiative, the Indian Institute of Tourism and Travel Management (IITTM) will conduct the training for a wide range of tourism stakeholders, including boatmen, vendors, tour guides, auto-rickshaw drivers, handicraft sellers, tour operators, and hosts of paying guest accommodations.

Bihar and Uttar Pradesh are are set for an upgrade in intercity rail connectivity as the new Vande Bharat Express between Gorakhpur and Patna will commence operations on June 20.  The upcoming train service is not just a leap in travel efficiency but also an infrastructural boost for the northern part of the country. Running on the Gorakhpur–Bettiah–Narkatiaganj–Muzaffarpur–Patna corridor, the Vande Bharat is expected to connect major commercial and cultural centres.

To highlight the cultural, spiritual, and historical richness of Uttar Pradesh, the state’s tourism department will set up a pavilion at the upcoming Pacific Asia Travel Association (PATA) Travel Mart, scheduled to take place in Bangkok from 26 to 28 August. Positioned as a major international tourism platform, PATA helps tourist boards to attract global footfall.

In a bid to promote tourism, the Uttar Pradesh government has introduced a first-of-its-kind Vistadome coach service connecting the Katarniaghat Wildlife Sanctuary to the Dudhwa Tiger Reserve. This initiative marks UP as the first state in the country to offer a jungle safari experience via a Vistadome train. It aims to offer travellers a thrilling wildlife experience while showcasing the natural beauty of the state.

Uttar Pradesh government has approved 13 projects worth ₹118 crore for tourism development in Agra, including the construction of a memorial for former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee. Additionally, Varanasi will also see development with 14 projects worth ₹74.31 crore. Projects include enhancements to Kailash Temple, Dariyanath Temple, Balkeshwar Temple and various other temples.

Uttar Pradesh Vidhan Sabha has passed a resolution granting industrial status to hotels, aligning with Rajasthan’s tourism policy. This move is expected to boost investment, reduce operational costs, and accelerate growth in the hospitality sector as the state is currently focusing on expanding tourism in UP.

Union Tourism Minister, Gajendra Singh Shekhawat said, “The ongoing Maha Kumbh in Prayagraj, Uttar Pradesh is expected to attract 30 lakh international visitors.” He added, “Initially, we had estimated around 15 lakh foreign visitors, which does not include non-resident Indians. However, looking at the response we have revised this to double our earlier estimate.”

Mukesh Kumar Meshram, Principal Secretary, Tourism & Culture, UP, informed that under the Uttar Pradesh Tourism Policy 2022, the state has received investment proposals worth ₹1 trillion in the hospitality sector in the last two years. The proposals were received after the state organised the Global Investors Summit in February 2023.

Uttar Pradesh’s Prayagraj Airport has started its first-ever night operations after 106 years, paving the way for 24/7 flight services. The airport’s new terminal is set to handle 2,700 pax per hour, ensuring seamless travel for flyers, accommodating increased air traffic and enhancing connectivity for the Maha Kumbh Mela 2025. To meet the demand, the airport has added 20 new flights, covering 14 destinations, including six new routes.

To captivate international audiences, the Uttar Pradesh Tourism Department is set to elevate the state’s global presence by showcasing Maha Kumbh 2025 at FITUR in Madrid, Spain, and ITB Berlin in Germany. With this, the tourism dept aims to position UP as a premier tourist destination, highlighting its rich cultural heritage and the significance of the Maha Kumbh mela.
