Minister of Civil Aviation, Jyotiraditya M. Scindia chaired an advisory committee meeting with airport operators, and key stakeholders to discuss transformative changes in airport interior design and technologies to expedite immigration and security check processes for international travellers. The meeting emphasized the common goal of positioning India at the forefront of air travel.

Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman stated that aviation sector has been galvanized in the past ten years. Number of airports have doubled to 149. “Roll out of air connectivity to tier-two and tier-three cities under UDAN scheme has been widespread. Five hundred and seventeen new routes are carrying 1.3 crore passengers. Indian carriers have pro-actively placed orders for over 1000 new aircrafts. Expansion of existing airports and development of new airports will continue expeditiously,” she added. This development will result into better connectivity, and more flight routes, which will eventually escalate the aviation industry and will significantly increase the number of tourist arrivals.

While unveiling the Interim Budget 2024,  Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman stated that the government aims to fortify the Electric Vehicle (EV) ecosystem by investing in the manufacturing and charging infrastructure. Additionally, she introduced that govt is going to launch new bio-manufacturing scheme to foster green growth. Consequently, the aviation sector will get a boost in green initiatives as they plan to introduce more strategies for responsible travelling.

Due to political strike by employee unions against Finnish Govt. on 1-2 February, Finnair will start cancelling flights from 30 January due to no connections from Helsinki. Customers will be offered alternative routes, long-haul flights to be routed directly to their destination.

Addressing Wings India 2024, Minister of Civil Aviation Jyotiraditya Scindia stated that the government is all set to operationalise more than 220 airports from the current 148 airports in next five years, under PPP and low-cost model, fostering the development of states without any airport.

Union Minister of Civil Aviation, Jyotiraditya Scindia commended the support provided by the Uttar Pradesh government in developing airports at a rapid rate. He announced that in this year Uttar Pradesh will have a total of 16 airports and this number will go up to 19 airports by 2025.

AAI has issued a notice informing Delhi International Airport will be closed daily from 19 January to 26 January, 2024 between 10.20 am to 12.45 pm in view of Republic Day celebrations. The closure of Delhi’s airspace on these days will impact the flight operations of all airlines.

Adedayo Olawuyi, CCO, Uganda Airlines, announced that the airline is all set to revive the Mumbai-Entebbe route from october 7, 2023 after 40 years. This route was earlier serviced by Air India. Uganda Airlines will start a three weekly direct flight between the two cities targeting VFR traffic, business travellers and medical tourists, but also mice and leisure tourists.

Vinod Kannan, CEO of Vistara, announced, “The airlines has launched several new routes from Mumbai, especially connecting to Middle East, aiming to align with the airline’s strategy to position Mumbai as vital hub for international travel”.
